Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 to launch in India on July 26 The SLC 43 will be powered by a 3 litre V6 Bi-Turbo engine that produces 362 bhp and 520 Nm of torque and will come connected to a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. The SLC, despite being an AMG offering, uses a smaller engine than the outgoing SLK which had a massive 5.5 litre naturally aspirated V8 capable of producing 414 bhp.

Historically, AMG models have been the hot rods from Mercedes but with the new SLC43, that is no longer the case. Under the hood is a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 that makes a rather tepid 362 hp. Mercedes says it is just 0.1 second slower to 60 than the SLK55 it replaces, but it is also down by 53 hp and sure to run out of steam at higher speeds. The SLC43 has unique suspension tuning versus its SLC-class sibling, but from the exterior they look almost identical. How far the mighty have fallen.

Mercedes-Benz will be launching the Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 in India on 26th July 2016. The SLC will be replacing the SLK 55 AMG which has been on sale in the country for quite some time now and had gained its reputation as one of the best luxury convertibles in the country. The SLC was first launched at the Detroit Motor show early this year and within a few months’ time, it is set to be launched on our shores. The SLC 43 takes the design language of the SLK forward and now sports a new front fascia which will remind you of the new A-Class. The back, too, has been updated with new bumper design, although the SLC looks largely similar to the SLK from the sides. The SLC 43 will be powered by a 3 litre V6 Bi-Turbo engine that produces 362 bhp and 520 Nm of torque and will come connected to a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. The SLC, despite being an AMG offering, uses a smaller engine than the outgoing SLK which had a massive 5.5 litre naturally aspirated V8 capable of producing 414 bhp.

Starting with the 2017 model year, the naturally aspirated V-8 will be dead at Mercedes. You’ll need to grab a 2016 SLK55 AMG to savor a turbo-free Benz eight-pot; that two-seater’s exclusive M152 5.5-liter V-8 makes that car an absolute hoot and, of course, sounds fantastic. The 2017 Mercedes-AMG SLC43—the SLC-class is the replacement for the SLK-class—swaps in a 3.0-liter V-6 that isn’t made by any master technicians in Affalterbach and is in fact shared with the C450 and GLE450 AMG Sport models. (We’ve learned that those cars soon will be renamed to Mercedes-AMG C43 and GLE43 and follow this roadster into full-fledged AMG-dom.)

The twin-turbo V-6 makes 362 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 384 lb-ft of torque at 2000 rpm, which are down 53 hp and 14 lb-ft versus the V-8 but sufficient to propel the roadster to 60 mph just 0.1 second behind the SLK55, Mercedes says. (The SLK55 hit 60 in 4.1 seconds in our testing.) The new 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic can take most of the credit, and in the SLC43 it’s tuned for faster shifts than in regular Benzes. Top speed is limited to 155 mph, whereas the SLK55 with the AMG Handling Package could hit 174. This won’t matter on American public roads, of course.
