The full-size Impala has received a more dramatic, inauspicious, sinister look, reminiscent of the Impala SS from the middle of the 1990s.

The Impala Midnight Edition comes with a Jet Black exterior, encompassing body-color mirrors, a black radiator grille with a jet-black trim, 19“ machine-faced aluminum wheels with black accents and a black rear spoiler. The well-known Chevrolet emblems on both ends of the exterior are blacked out. The subtle trunk-mounted spoiler gives the big sedan a sportier appearance.

The exterior also comes in five new colors: Siren Red Tintcoat exterior color (extra cost) (late availability), Citron Green Metallic exterior color, Heather Gray Metallic exterior color, Mosaic Black Metallic exterior color (late availability) and Green Envy Metallic exterior color (extra cost).

Chevrolet has not yet revealed the pictures of the Midnight Edition cockpit, but it claims that the new Impala is equipped with sport pedals and Jet Black upholstery of the seats, the dashboard and the door panels. These should be the main upgrades regarding the interior.

On the mechanical side, the 2016 Impala gets 800 cold-cranking amps unit instead of the 2015 Impala’s 900 cold-cranking amps battery, for reasons unknown.

On the infotainment level, the 2016 Impala adds wireless device charging to its equipment list, whereas the CD player is now part of the Technology Package, which comes standard on the LTZ trim level. The 2016 Impala also features some other types of package-level changes. The customers of the Midnight Edition are offered a choice between the standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine or 3.6-liter V6 engine. Chevy Impala 2016 with a 2.5 liter engine accelerates from 0-60 mph in less than 8 seconds, with a top speed of 130 mph, average consumption is estimated at 27 mpg. Stronger version from 3.6-liter on average consumes slightly more, about 25 mpg, but the performance is better from 0-60 mph arrives in less than 7 sec.

No mechanical modifications have been made to the Midnight Edition. Base models come with a direct-injected 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine which delivers 195 horsepower and 187 pound-feet of torque, whereas the customers who go after the upgraded trim, can order a naturally-aspirated 3.6-liter V6 engine which puts out 305 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are front-wheel drive and mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The most powerful variant of the Chevy Impala is Impala SS, which under the hood has a 6.2 liter aspirated V8 with 420 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque.
