MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Both directions of Interstate 94 are closed near downtown Minneapolis due to a gas leak.
The Minnesota Department of Transporation says I-94 is closed at the Lowry Hill Tunnel and traffic is being diverted to the Hennepin/Lyndale exit. Motorists should avoid the area if at all possible while emergency crews investigate the leak.
The Minneapolis Police Department said the leak is in the Lowry Hill neighborhood near the Walker Art Center. Authorities say hundreds of people have been evacuated from the area, and CenterPoint Energy has crews in the area working to fix the leak as quickly as possible.
