PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) Numerous residents and two schools have been evacuated after a wildfire started north of Highway 78 Monday afternoon.

The fire was reported around 1 p.m. and has "affected" several structures, according to the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, who said they did not know the extent of damage. At last report, the fire was 7-10 acres, burning north of the highway. It's unclear if it's grown, but the sheriff's office says strong winds and dry conditions are helping to fuel it.

Current evacuations

-1-mile radius around Beulah Hill

-.2-mile radius around the 8700 block of Highway 78, including 3R Road

-Beulah Elementary and Beulah Middle School

Evacuated residents can go to Roncalli Miiddle School. Students from the two evacuated schools are being taken to Pleasant View Middle School.

Meteorologist Jessica Lebel says that there are wind gusts above 40 mph in the Beulah area, and that throughout southern Colorado, the combination of warm temperatures, low humidity and dry vegetation from lack of significant moisture as of late have made conditions ripe for high fire danger.
